The grade 6 Music program consists of several musical components. These include learning to read notes on a staff and play them on the recorder, learning to count and play more complex rhythmic structures on various rhythm instruments and learning basic theoretical terms.
There are two recorder tests per term, as well as the development of an original composition in term three, also performed on the recorder.
The students are required to play the recorders at the Christmas and Spring concerts and practice records of 30 minutes are due most weeks.
World Music is also one of the components. Since our sister school is in South Africa, the students focus on the protest songs and the reasons for this genre, during the Apartheid. Active student participation in all of the areas is necessary to develop an appreciation of Music.
